After multiple dataminers uncovered information on a new gameplay mechanic, Epic Games confirmed in the Overview Trailer for Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 that players will be able to slide. In the Overview Trailer, sliding will give players an extra edge over their enemies by evading them or catching them off guard with a sneak attack.
Sliding has been one of the top requested features that have been seen in various gaming releases like Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone. We take a look at everything you need to know about sliding as well as how players can use sliding in Fortnite.
What is sliding in Fortnite?
Before its reveal in the Overview Trailer, Fortnite source, HYPEX first reported on the sliding mechanic back in September. The new mechanic will change the player’s field of vision (FOV) when used, which will result in the camera being slightly disrupted.
Epic Games confirmed in a blog post that players would be able to use their weapons as the build function whilst sliding. The type of surface players slide over will impact your sliding speed, and there is a two-second cooldown between every slide.
How to slide in Fortnite?
Players will be sliding onto their knees while having a good grip on their weapon; this can be done by holding whichever keys or buttons players have assigned to crouch while running to start sliding.
As mentioned before, sliding can help players build momentum when escaping enemies, outrun the storm or get the jump on unsuspecting players. While we encourage players to start experimenting with the slide mechanic once Chapter 3 Season 1 starts to get a feel for how the mechanic can be used in combat situations.
With Fortnite’s introduction of the sliding mechanic in Chapter 3 Season 1, the mechanic will affect the overall gameplay on the meta.
