Developer Neowiz announced a prequel expansion to their action RPG release, Lies of P, during the PlayStation State of Play presentation back in February 2025, much to the excitement of players globally. The game garnered mostly positive reviews upon its release in 2023 and was praised for its compelling narrative, combat systems, enemy and level design, and atmospheric score.

While the game's ending certainly teased either DLC following the events of the base game or a possible sequel, the developers announced a prequel DLC, Overture, set before the events of Lies of P. This narrative detail was explained in an interview with game director Choi Ji-won, who spoke about the prequel's relation to the base game, what players can anticipate narrative-wise with the DLC, and talked about his experiences with Elden Ring Nightreign.

Speaking to Eurogamer while attending the Game Developers Conference (GDC), game director Choi Ji-won revealed that he's open to exploring a multiplayer game set within the world of Lies of P, akin to what FromSoftware is exploring with Nightreign. "Our primary focus from the concept of this game was to deliver a high quality, premium action game that is single-player," Choi stated during the interview.

He continued to explain, "There were a lot of learnings for us [from the base game], and we did our best to reflect those improvements. The expansion is the completion of that. In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

It's well known that Choi plays a variety of games, something that he revealed during his GDC interview with Eurogamer, and in fact, he participated in the Elden Ring Nightreign network test, which he calls "very refreshing and new." "So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers; they always push their boundaries, their imagination, and vision, and it shows."

Choi added that his hands-on experiences with Nightreign motivated him "to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be," which after the DLC was announced, he referred to Lies of P as a "director's cut" while reiterating that they, in turn, created a "developers' cut." He elaborated this statement by stating that the team "never really saw the development of Overture as a separate entity," rather seeing the base game and Overture DLC as a complete gaming experience as they believe "the whole entire thing delivers the game of Lies of P as how it was supposed to be experienced."

Choi confirmed that sometime during Chapter 9, while revisiting Krat Central Station, is when we can begin accessing the Overture DLC and making its integration relatively seamless. Choi mentioned some key details regarding the setup for the DLC, including detailing a few story beats present in-game and expanding the vast diversity of weapons featured in the Overture DLC.

Lastly, Choi spoke on how they approached gameplay difficulty for Lies of P's Overture DLC, stating that they "wanted to really make the content accessible and enjoyable to the veterans of the game, as well as new users." He concluded by adding that they "made a game that satisfies both segments of customers," so their "prioritization is more focused on the overall game experience."
