SEGA announced their next Sonic-focused project, Sonic Rumble, which is launching for mobile devices and PCs and is currently available in its "Pre-Launch period." During this period, the developer had launched a handful of patch updates, new game modes, and events for players to participate in; even a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film made its way to the battle royale game.
Sonic Rumble was initially slated to release in May 2025, in which its next update was to be released sometime following the game's official launch. SEGA's Sonic Rumble team made an announcement this week, just days away from the game's launch, announcing its delay with more news to follow soon.
The upcoming party battle royale, Sonic Rumble, was initially slated to be released for mobile devices and PCs on 8th May 2025, with the next update, v1.2, planned to launch sometime thereafter. This update adds new in-game content, including new Skills, Crews to team up and clear missions together, and Rumble Ranking by participating in a new League mode to earn unique rewards.
Sadly for Sonic fans, the developer announced on 30th April 2025 that Sonic Rumble would be delayed, with its new release date unconfirmed as of writing. According to the delay announcement posted to the game's Steam page, the developer stated that this news may be highly disappointing to Sonic Rumble fans; however, the news "wasn’t a decision we made lightly.
"We at SEGA share that disappointment, especially because we’re making this call so close to the launch timing we had originally hoped for. However, we believe taking this extra time is the right choice for the future of Sonic Rumble," the developer added.
Players will be able to learn more about the recent decision to delay Sonic Rumble, as a community event has been announced and will be hosted on their official Discord server. This community Q&A session is expected to start on 2nd May 2025 at 6 am PT / 9 am ET / 1 pm UTC, where players can submit their questions and queries to be answered by the development team and receive updates on more new game features and what's next for Sonic Rumble in light of the game's delay.
