Overwatch 2 Players Concerned as Freja Shows Early Signs of Dominance

Season 16 of Overwatch 2 introduced Freja to the roster, and while she was expected to be a deadly Hunter, she’s turned out to be far more powerful than anyone anticipated.

Overwatch 2 has undergone major changes in a short span, thanks to the introduction of perks and the newly released Stadium mode—both of which have shaken up the core gameplay. But as always, new heroes remain the heartbeat of the game. With Freja now fully introduced in Season 16, players are diving in to test her capabilities. However, she’s already proving to be quite lethal—some say too lethal. And with additional buffs reportedly on the way, Freja might become a serious thorn in the side of many players moving forward.

Freja Dominates Season 16 of Overwatch, And She Was Supposed to Be Even Stronger

Since her initial introduction during a Season 15 playtest, it’s been clear that Freja is a force to be reckoned with when placed in the right hands. Now, with her full release in Season 16, that hasn’t changed—if anything, her dominance has only become more apparent

Players across Reddit and community forums are voicing concern, many claiming she’s already overpowered. “Why is no one talking about this? This character is disgusting,” said one fan in a Reddit post. “This is just Sojourn again,” added another.

The main issue? Freja’s ultimate charges at an alarming rate, especially when players combine her Take-Aim ability with standard fire or secure quick kills. This sentiment is echoed widely. One player commented: “I was playing a game with one of my friends on Freja, he got ult so, so, so, so often—it was ridiculous. Twice in one fight at one point. And the damage done was crazy.”

Freja changes and more buffs to come

Unfortunately for those already struggling to counter her, the bad news doesn’t stop there. Freja was originally set to receive additional buffs—including movement and cooldown improvements—as part of her full release in Season 16. However, these changes weren’t included in the latest patch.

Blizzard acknowledged this in a recent update, stating: “A previously announced balance change for Freja did not get applied in the previous hotfix update. This balance change will be applied in a future update coming soon.” So while there’s no exact timeline for when Freja will receive these delayed buffs, one thing is clear: she’s already strong, and she’s going to get even stronger.

For now, players will need to adapt and develop new strategies to deal with her. She may not be invincible, but she’s certainly one of the most threatening heroes on the roster right now. Whether or not she becomes the next Sojourn-level meta problem remains to be seen, but all signs point to Blizzard needing to keep a close eye on her performance going forward.
