Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi series has been a successful franchise for the developer, its publisher Electronic Arts, and Lucasfilm Games since the release of Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019. The game was subsequently followed up with Jedi: Survivor in 2023, in which a third and final game was confirmed by the developer and Cal Kestis himself, Cameron Monaghan.

Fans of the series had hoped for both the character and the actor to make a leap into a Star Wars live-action IP; however, that hasn't materialized since as development on the third Star Wars Jedi continues. However, this past week, shocking news from EA was announced, resulting in more mass layoffs at the publisher and affecting Respawn Entertainment, which has raised concerns about the forthcoming Star Wars Jedi game.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the publisher had reportedly slashed between 300 and 400 jobs across multiple departments, including 100 individuals at Respawn Entertainment. These cuts impacted the teams working on Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi, and two canceled games, of which one was a multiplayer FPS title reported by IGN and a new Titanfall game, as confirmed by Bloomberg's report.

The studio posted an official statement on social media, which read, "As we sharpen our focus for the future, we've made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi." As for the latter game, the studio later reiterated that they're "excited to keep building new stories – with the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay," which reaffirmed that the studio will be prioritizing the final Star Wars Jedi game moving forward as details surrounding the game remains a secret.
