Over the decades in video game history, we have seen multiple games that sadly never saw the light of day and into the hands of players globally. From canceled announced projects to those stuck in development purgatory, it has left us curious about what they could've become if released to the general public.

One such example over the last two decades is Star Wars Battlefront 3, which, since time has lapsed, many have often wondered what had happened to its development team and the game build, which had since become lost in history. It appears time cannot only be lost but also seemingly recovered as one dedicated team has recovered a build showcase for the third-person shooter.

Free Radical Archive is a team of individuals who track down and recover information and game-related data on canceled projects by the developer Free Radical (h/t GamesRadar). Star Wars Battlefront 3 is one such project, as it was intended to be the third entry in the Battlefront series that entered production around 2006 before it was canceled two years later.

16 years after its cancellation, build gameplay footage for Star Wars Battlefront 3 has emerged online following ten years of persistent research for which the Free Radical Archive team described it as achieving "what was once considered impossible." Its video description, in which the build was posted by a lead developer of the Star Wars Battlefront 3 Legacy mod, iamashaymin Modding, explained that it was "made in the final week of development."

Viewing this build showcase for Star Wars Battlefront 3, they described it as being filled with plenty of "content that has not been seen before by fans. As this game was canceled during development, there are still bugs and issues which we hope can be resolved through future modding."

Clearly, this latest information surrounding Star Wars Battlefront 3 is not the end; it's a start for the Free Radical Archive team. They're planning to continue working on recovering more lost data before patching out some technical issues before releasing a modded version of the game that can be playable by the general public, but there is no indication as to when this might happen.
