Misfits Academy shock Schalke in Challenger Series

The Misfits Academy lineup caused a stir last night after they toppled big investors Schalke 04 in the Challenger Series playoffs to earn their spot at the LCS promotion tournament.

It was almost a clean sweep for the side, who went 2-0 up over Schalke early on. Despite glum looks on the faces of their players, Schalke managed a comeback in the third game. However it was Misfits who managed to close the game out, off the back of a dominating Katarina performance from mid laner Sofyan “CozQ” Rechchad.

Despite CozQ providing most of the firepower throughout the series, rooke jungler Milo “Pridestalker” Wehnes was the surprise of the series. Against former LCS jungler Jean-Victor “Loulex” Burgevin, Pridestalker took control of the jungle throughout the four game series, causing a spot of embarrassment for Loulex, who had previously tweeted:

Schalke went undefeated in the Challenger Series regular season, prompting many to believe that their spot in the LCS promotion tournament was all but secured. The upset win from Misfits Academy means that the team has no chance of featuring in the LCS in 2017, with their next opporunity coming in Spring 2018, if the team sticks together to play in the Summer Challenger Series.

Misfits Academy is the first team to qualify for the promotion tournament, though Fnatic Academy will also be trying to upset a big name football investor when they face off against PSG Esports next weekend. From the LCS, it’s looking more and more likely that Giants Gaming and Origen will be the ones fighting for their LCS lives.
