Marvel Rivals is halfway through Season 2, and the highly anticipated mid-season update, Season 2.5, is just around the corner. However, what’s sparking conversation among fans right now are the changes coming to everyone’s favorite, Jeff the Land Shark. The community is divided over what these adjustments mean for the character moving forward, so let’s dive into the details below.

Marvel Rivals Season 2.5: Jeff the Land Shark Gets a Major Rework, Fans Divided

Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals is set to launch on May 30, 2025, and while several heroes are receiving reworks, few are as dramatically changed as Jeff the Land Shark. As detailed in the official patch notes, Jeff’s update is being marketed as a "Fin-tastic update," but not everyone is on board with the new direction.

Jeff’s Rework Summary

The core theme of Jeff’s rework focuses on enhancing his frontline support and combat power while dialing back his survivability. Here’s a quick breakdown of the changes coming to Jeff in Season 2.5:

Joyful Splash

  • Now deals 70 damage per second to enemies.
  • Can now heal allies through both enemies and allies.
  • Damage falloff starts at 20m, dropping to 65% at 40m.
  • Healing reduced from 150 to 130 per second.

Aqua Burst

  • Now a charge-based ability (3 charges, 3s per charge).
  • Direct hits now launch enemies upward.
  • Spell field damage increased from 40 to 45.

Healing Bubble

  • Changed from instant 85 heal to 120 healing over 4 seconds.
  • Charges reduced from 6 to 3.
  • The enemy knockback has been removed.

Hide and Seek

  • Now has a 120 energy cap.
  • Drains 20/s while submerged, restores 15/s when not submerged.

Ultimate: It’s Jeff!

  • Overflow healing now grants 45 bonus health per second, up to 150 max.
  • Energy cost increased from 4000 to 4500.

Passive/Stat Adjustments

  • Critical hit damage reduction improved from 50% to 70%.

While some players appreciate the new approach, others are far less enthusiastic. Over on the Marvel Rivals subreddit, discussion has erupted over whether this rework strips Jeff of what made him special.

In a thread titled "Why is Jeff getting nerfed in nearly every aspect?", the original poster writes: "Not only is he going to be worse on healing and damage—areas he was never stellar in to begin with—but his survivability is absolutely terrible now. He's going to be an absolute throw pick, and many already saw him as that."

Other users echoed similar concerns, pointing to the new limitations on his mobility. One user said: "Taking away unlimited swim is like taking away Iron Man’s flying, Captain America’s sprint, or Spider-Man’s web swings. Putting all of those on a cap ruins the core identity of the character. His kit is built around the swim."

You all are tilted about the jeff changes just like youve been titlted about the rocket changes back than. Than when the update does come out yall will be saying "jeff is so good" 'Damm jeff is actually viable now" and so on. wait until the update comes out.

However, not all feedback is negative. In a counter-thread titled "Here’s why the Jeff change was necessary," user u/VR_Has_Gone_Too_Far explains: "DPS Jeff was fun. There's no doubt about it. He had a unique playstyle and could sometimes be effective in the right team comps. However, he had serious limitations and problems." Others chimed in with optimism about his new role: "People have no idea how insanely good this is going to be."

At this stage, the community is split. While the changes aim to make Jeff more balanced and team-reliant, some worry that they come at the cost of his fun, quirky identity—a character often known for causing chaos in the background while still offering utility.

Whether this rework makes Jeff a more viable support or pushes him further into "throw pick" territory remains to be seen. For now, we’ll just have to wait until Season 2.5 arrives and see how this land shark swims in the updated meta.
