Developer NetEase Games has announced their latest project, a new team-based PVP shooter, Marvel Rivals, in collaboration with Marvel Games. This superhero game is currently "in development for PC," as the developer has confirmed a Closed Alpha Test is being scheduled for May, with details to follow shortly.
This forthcoming superhero game will feature the illustrious roster of iconic and popular Marvel Comics heroes and villains as players battle each other in "a thrilling, fast-paced, cooperative gameplay experience." Players must assemble to "coordinate" unique strategies by utilizing character synergies to sync up Team-Up Skills and unleash devastating attacks "that can turn the tide of combat."
According to an official press release, "Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown." Players will traverse multiple iconic locations from Marvel's history as they can utilize their superhero or villainous powers to change their environments and create opportunities for new strategies to be employed within their new environments.
Jay Ong, Head of Marvel Games, explained that "Marvel Rivals is one of our most ambitious game development projects. Since the conceptualization of the game and throughout our collaboration, our Marvel team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we are thrilled to work with the incredible team at NetEase Games to help deliver the ultimate Super Hero team-based PVP shooter."
The developer has added that the team-based PVP shooter will be well-supported post-launch, with seasonal updates featuring new superheroes and villains joining the roster and more "challenging and diverse maps" for players to unlock to create unique and destructive possibilities and strategies when engaging in battle across the Multiverse.
With the Alpha Test for Marvel Rivals arriving on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam in May, players will gain access to a roster of characters, confirmed by NetEase, including Black Panther, Magik, Magneto, and Spider-Man.
