More details on the technology behind Xbox Series X

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft held an official Xbox Series X presentation where they revealed all the hardware specifications for their upcoming next-gen console - Xbox Series X, and you can read all about it in our dedicated article.

Yesterday, on the Inside Inbox show, we had an opportunity to find out more about this beast of a console, and to learn a bit more about some of its advantages.

Jason Ronald, Director of Product Management on Xbox Series X, talked about some various new technologies implemented in Xbox Series X, and how would that affect gaming in practice, and overall general experience for us gamers.

He talked about DirectX raytracing and variable-rate shading, he also mentioned 3D audio processing and tried to explain to the general audience what is Xbox Velocity Architecture, and what that means for both gamers and developers alike.

He also mentioned Quick Resume feature, which will allow users to almost instantaneously continue their game right where they left it, showcasing how a player is playing Forza game, pausing and entering Ori within a few seconds, without any loading or additional screens.

Finally, they've talked a bit about storage options. They mentioned Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X and how powerful it is, matching the speed of the internal drive. But they also wanted to highlight that you will be able to use your older external drives, which you used for Xbox One. You can simply plug-in your old Xbox One external drive with Xbox One games on it, and start playing them on Xbox Series X right away! When it comes to new games, designed for Xbox Series X, you can store them on old external drives, but when you want to play them, you will need to move them to either internal drive or Seagate Storage Expansion Card.
