It's been reported that Microsoft are planning to release several Xbox-exclusive games for other platforms, including PlayStation, forming part of their existing release strategy outlined last year. This strategy was explained in an internal memo obtained by The Verge last February, where Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer envisioned a "different future" for gaming where players can experience gaming across different devices.
This strategy was executed in February 2024 in an Xbox Wire post, with Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment having launched last February and Grounded and Sea of Thieves in April 2024, and more Xbox-exclusive games are coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. A prominent gaming insider recently revealed last week that two games are reportedly heading to PlayStation consoles, but a new report seemingly confirmed these claims with more Xbox-exclusive games slated for multiplatform releases in 2025.
Last week, podcaster and noted gaming insider NateTheHate claimed that Microsoft is planning to launch two widely popular exclusive titles, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which are heading to PlayStation 5 consoles and planned support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is on the table for a 2025 release. If confirmed, they'll be joining Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves, which all received multiplatform releases in 2024 and have done quite well for these platforms; however, a Windows Central report seemingly corroborated these claims with new and supporting information.
Windows Central presented its sources and reported that additional Xbox games are being planned for multiplatform releases in 2025. In addition to claims that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection is reportedly coming soon to PS5 with support for the upcoming Switch 2 console, Age of Mythology, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, and the Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition are being planned for PS5 consoles; however, whether there'll be support for Switch 2 consoles isn't clear as of writing.
Neither Microsoft nor Xbox have confirmed this new report and recent claims whether these games are being planned for multiplatform releases in 2025, as there is no indication as to when we can expect an official announcement. But the show must go on as Xbox is hosting a Developer Direct presentation later this month, showcasing some of 2025's "highly anticipated games" coming to the Xbox platform, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and South of Midnight.
