Developer Respawn Entertainment surprised Star Wars fans on the second day of the Star Wars Celebration with the debut of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the action-adventure game, picks up with Cal Kestis and BD-1 years following the events of Fallen Order.
Pushing forward with Cal's journey of becoming a Jedi Knight, the developer knew that they wanted to continue developing his journey before the completion of Jedi: Fallen Order. Jedi: Survivor looks to expand Star Wars lore and world-building mechanics to "create a deeper and more expansive" experience for current-gen consoles and PC players in 2023.

Developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts brought the official teaser trailer for the sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The developer first confirmed the sequel in January 2022 before avid players were treated to their first look into the sequel at the Star Wars Celebration.

The trailer sees Cal Kestis and BD-1 embark on another journey during the "age of the Empire" in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. As Cal and BD-1 struggle to survive while searching for answers in an unprecedented time, Cal will rely on his loyal droid, new allies, and newly found abilities.
In an interview with StarWars.com, game director Stig Asmussen revealed what players could expect from this highly-anticipated sequel and how the tone will set up events for Cal and BD-1. "The game is all about survival. That's why it's called Jedi: Survivor. They are in dark times, and Cal and the crew are doing whatever it takes to stay alive."
"That might mean that they are making connections with people that, in other times, might be considered unsavory. Some of that is portrayed in the trailer, and again, I don't want to give anything away, but there's definitely a sense of… I don't want to spoil anything, sorry!" Asmussen elaborated.
With Star Wars having a rich history and strong world-building, Respawn had ample material to expand the franchise's lore beyond film and television properties. This expansion of the Galactic universe allowed the developer to show their love and appreciation for the Star Wars franchise, and it's evident in Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor.
The developer revealed that Jedi: Survivor will come with some next-gen enhancements and features, including ray-tracing and faster loading speeds. Respawn also announced that the sequel will arrive on consoles and PC in 2023.
