Phasmophobia has sold 1 million copies on consoles, following the game's highly-anticipated release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 29 October this year. The game may have released on consoles just in time for Halloween, but developers say that its success is an early Christmas present.
“This incredible achievement is only possible thanks to our wonderful, supportive and engaged community,” said Daniel Knight, CEO And Lead Developer at Kinetic Games of the achievement. “The entire team here at Kinetic Games could not be happier, reaching this milestone is the best Christmas present we could have wished for.”
The console release of Phasmophobia on October 29 this year and its subsequent success was especially exciting for both devs and fans, not just because of its timing around Halloween, but also due to the numerous delays that had plagued its journey to consoles. The delays were largely due to the game’s developers, Kinetic Games, facing a fire in their offices.
Phasmophobia, which first made waves when it launched in Early Access on Steam in September 2020, has seen an impressive trajectory of success. Back in October, Kinetic Games revealed that Phasmophobia had sold a whopping 20 million Early Access copies.
"We are absolutely thrilled to see Phasmophobia reach this incredible milestone," Daniel Knight, Phasmophobia's Managing Director & Lead Developer said at the time.
"The journey has been nothing short of amazing, and it’s all thanks to our dedicated community of players who continue to share their passion for the game. We're excited to keep expanding the Phasmophobia experience and look forward to what the future holds."
Phasmophobia is keeping the new content coming after its Blood Moon event recently ended. Devs recently teased the game's upcoming Christmas event, which seems to involve Krampus. More details are expected to be revealed as the event draws closer.
