After dropping a teaser for the upcoming announcement, the MLB The Show 24 cover athlete has been revealed in truly special fashion. Sony San Diego brought together huge stars for an MLB The Show 24 cover athlete reveal that doubled as a documentary on the importance of baseball in the Dominican Republic.
Baseball Hall of Famer David Ortiz was on hand along with Latin Grammy Award winning artist Eladio Carrión to announce the MLB The Show 24 cover athlete. We've got all the details below along with news on this year's physical collector's edition.
Who is the MLB The Show 24 Cover Athlete?
We've now learned the MLB The Show 24 cover athlete is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and it's a major accolade for the 24-year-old star who has continue to prove himself one of the hardest hitters in baseball. Rather than simply dropping a short trailer, Sony San Diego went with a star-studded reveal hosted by Hall of Famer David Ortiz.
Ortiz was joined by Latin Grammy Award winning artist Eladio Carrión and Sony San Diego's Ramone Russell for a special documentary showcasing the importance of baseball in the Dominican Republic. The feature highlighted how powerful representation can be and the impact Latin American culture has had on the sport of baseball before finally unveiling the Vladdy Jr. cover.
While his cover was just before the branding shift to The Show, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. was on the cover of MLB 2006 which released before the 2005 season. You can also find more details here about the now confirmed MLB The Show 24 release date.
MLB The Show 24 Negro Leagues Edition Cover
Rather than a lone cover star, the collector's edition this year instead pays homage to a period in baseball history more and more are learning about through the game. The MLB The Show 24 Negro Leagues Edition features a unique red and blue poster inspired by newspapers and posters of that era, and this physical edition includes a special hat and steelbook.
For the digital and physical MVP Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition, they feature a simpler design showing some of the logos of Negro Leagues teams featured in MLB The Show 24. For every Negro Leagues Edition sold in the US before December 31, 2024, they'll also donate $1 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and its mission of preserving this rich history.
