While the last drop seemed to round out this year's MLB The Show 24 Storylines for Negro Leagues Season 2, they've got another surprise chapter on the way. Ahead of this year's MLB at Rickwood Field game between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants, Sony San Diego announced the stadium itself will be added to MLB The Show 24. We've also gotten a glimpse at new Storylines playing as Willie Mays, who began his career with the Negro Leagues' Birmingham Black Barons.
MLB The Show 24 adding Rickwood Field, Willie Mays storyline
MLB The Show 24 is already winning awards with this year's installment snagging Best Games & Immersive at the Tribeca X Awards, which was specifically awarded to Storylines: The Negro Leagues. Despite the accolades, they aren't quite done as we've got yet another chapter on the way in partnership with the MLB.
Last year, they announced that a regular season game between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants would be played at the historic Rickwood Field, as both a salute to the Negro Leagues and in observance of Juneteenth. The game is set for June 20, 2024, but players will be able to experience a virtual Rickwood Field this week as well.
Rickwood Field is currently the oldest professional ballpark in the United States, originally built for the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues back in 1910. It continued to be their home for several decades, but it did get some more recent renovations to get the facility prepared for modern MLB standards.
The preview shared on Twitter also featured a new chat with Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick, who is the narrator and guide through this history in Storylines. Unlike their previous interviews filmed at the museum itself, it appears they've got new footage with Kendrick at the now renovated Rickwood Field. They didn't confirm an exact release date and time, but this will likely deploy in the next few days ahead of Thursday's game.
