We're only weeks away from the first major MLB The Show 24 reveals, but a new job listing for Sony's San Diego Studio could signal some of what fans can look forward to. While some fans no doubt have their eyes out for a potential Franchise or Road to the Show upgrade, it looks like Diamond Dynasty will get another big change.
The card-based mode similar to Ultimate Team and MyTEAM made a big step in eliminating power creep last year, but it's not clear yet if those changes will stick. Based on this latest bit of news, MLB The Show 24 Diamond Dynasty is due to change once again.
MLB The Show 24 looking to add Battle Pass mechanic
As fans clamor for news about MLB The Show 24, a recent job listing by Sony has actually tipped off plans for the franchise. According to the listing, which can be seen in full here, Sony is currently hiring a Game Economy Designer specifically to work at San Diego Studio on the MLB The Show franchise.
The listing goes on to note that the position will help by "creating, analyzing and balancing a game economy with interdependent factors such as virtual currencies, battle passes and loot boxes," as seen above. The deliberate mention of battle passes would signal a change, but it aligns with some of how we saw Diamond Dynasty evolve in MLB The Show 23.
The elimination of power creep and introduction of a rotating sets and seasons mechanic aimed to keep the game exciting while allowing an easier entry point for players. We don't know yet exactly how their peek at battle passes and other microtransactions will impact the game, but players can only hope they aren't taking too many cues from NBA 2K24.
