Ghost of Yōtei, the standalone sequel to Sucker Punch Production's 2020 action-adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima, officially has a release date following its reveal during the PlayStation State of Play presentation in September 2024. The game is set 300 years after Jin Sakai's journey concluded in Ghost of Tsushima; the developer pivoted their "focus to the idea of the Ghost instead" with a fresh new story to follow, a new area of Japan to explore, and a new protagonist "wearing a Ghost mask."
This new area is located at the surrounding lands of Mount Yōtei, which features vast grasslands and snow-capped landscapes that are populated with hazards; this gives players more area to explore as they follow her quest of vengeance, claim bounties or interact with NPCs that will help Atsu in her blood-soaked journey. The developer revealed a snippet of what players can anticipate in the upcoming release with a new trailer, which accompanied the game's official release, coming to PlayStation 5 consoles later this year.
Five years after Jin Sakai's journey concluded, with the character living his remaining years as the "Ghost of Tsushima," Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new character, Atsu, who sets off on her journey seeking out members of the Yōtei Six. This is the focal point of a brand new trailer, “The Onryō’s List,” which confirms the official release date for Ghost of Yōtei, coming to PlayStation 5 consoles on 2nd October 2025, with a Wishlist functionality now available.
After "a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six" robbed Atsu of everything she valued in her life by killing her family members before leaving her for death, she dedicated the years that followed by training and learning to hunt before venturing back home. However, in her possession are the names of each member of the Yōtei Six, which she spends hunting them one by one, wielding the same weapon that nearly caused her death years prior.
According to the official PlayStation Blog announcement from Sucker Punch Productions Senior Communications Manager Andrew Goldfarb, "But while Atsu’s story begins with vengeance, she’ll find there’s more to her journey than just revenge. As she explores Ezo, Atsu will meet unlikely allies and forge connections that help give her a new sense of purpose."
