Ms Marvel series watchlist – MCU titles to watch

Marvel Studios is gearing up for Kamala Khan to make a massive splash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Disney+ original series, Ms Marvel. The series is an official character and superhero introduction before teaming up with notable heroes in the Captain Marvel sequel for a 2023 release.

Likewise, MCU fans aren't required to rewatch all 28 MCU films and six series; there are a few that bears weight on the film. We'll highlight significant plot points, characters, and details; with a spoiler alert warning if you have yet to watch these MCU properties.

What MCU projects to watch before Ms Marvel releases?

Unlike previous Marvel characters, there isn't much to refer back to to prepare oneself for the release of the Ms Marvel series. The show's IMDb Connections page and its Sizzle Reel uses footage from two Phase 3 films; however, its impact on the overall narrative has yet to be determined.

As we know that Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel is set to make her next MCU appearance in The Marvels film next year; here's a look at the films and TV series you'll need to watch ahead of the series premiere on 8th June 2022.

Avengers: Infinity War

In the third Avengers film, which is part of the MCU's Infinity Saga, Earth's Mightiest Heroes and their allies unite on the vast lands of Wakanda in a bid to derail the Mad Titan, Thanos. Destined to seek out the Infinity Stones, wielding them to create a reality of his making, inevitably sees the Avengers fighting to prevent him from causing destruction and wiping out half the universe.

With Doctor Strange exploring multiple timelines and universes to determine if they'll succeed, unfortunately, this was the instance where they failed as a Snap was heard across the universe. For Nick Fury, he sends out a signal from a pager, a direct line of communication with Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel at the film's conclusion.

Captain Marvel

While Avengers: Infinity War served as a midway introduction to Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, her standalone film explores her backstory as her superhero origins are explored. Following an aircraft crash that sees Danvers absorb the cosmic powers of an Infinity Stone, the Tesseract/Space Stone powered the aircraft's engine.

While the crash caused memory loss, she was captured by the Kree, an alien militaristic race pursuing a scientist who developed the aircraft Danvers flew. Suffering nightmares from the crash, Danvers gains abilities due to the explosion; however, she has to suppress her power through an implant initially aimed at keeping her emotions at bay.

An ambush intercepted a mission intended to infiltrate the Skrulls, resulting in Danvers hiding out on Earth. Attracting the attention of SHIELD agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, the trio works together to help her uncover her memories, seek answers regarding her past, and expose the real enemy to save Earth from another invasion.

Danvers reprograms a pager that she gives to Fury to communicate with her if the fate of the world needs her help. While Earth had the Avengers, it needed Danvers as Fury uses the pager in the post-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Endgame

The mid-credit scene of Captain Marvel reveals that Danvers had received the pager signal before arriving on Earth inquiring from the remaining Avengers on the whereabouts of Nick Fury. Danvers plays having rescued Tony Stark and Nebula, floating in deep space before travelling with the heroes to locate Thanos.

While their initial plans were thwarted due to Thanos destroying the Infinity Stones in the main MCU continuity, Thor quickly dispatches Thanos using Stormbreaker to kill the titan. Time passes by, where Scott Lang/Ant-Man explains his plan to time travel and seek out the stones from the past.

Together with their allies, they will have to assemble in a final attempt to undo Thanos' Snap by travelling back in time to regain all six Infinity Stones and bring back balance to the universe. Danvers explores space to restore balance to the universe beyond the Avengers' reach before returning to Earth in the climactic battle against Thanos and his forces.

Following Endgame, alongside Bruce Banner, she accepts Wong's holographic call where she meets Shang-Chi in the mid-credit scene for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. From this point or sometime during the film's events, Ms Marvel could likely start its story; however, the series' conclusion will tie in with The Marvels film.

Ms Marvel premieres on 8th June 2022 on Disney+ as "A Fan's Guide to Ms Marvel" is available now. Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame is currently streaming on Disney+.
