For those out of the loop, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman passed away recently, after a secret 4-year-long battle with colon cancer. As fans mourn the loss of the iconic hero, it wouldn’t be the right time to reveal a new Wakanda-focussed DLC, and Square Enix thanked fans for their understanding in this matter.

During a new reveal for Marvel’s Avengers post-launch content, Square Enix showed off what the game has in store for fans in the months following September’s release. We saw new hero Kate Bishop be revealed as the game’s first DLC Avenger, and we also saw a nod to Chadwick Boseman himself.
In a sign of respect for “a fallen true hero”, the game’s developers ask players to understand that they didn’t feel able to show all that they were initially going to. As Square Enix comes together with Avengers fans everywhere to commemorate the iconic Black Panther, it appears that any footage of the character in-game will have to be postponed until a later date.

With that in mind, this is the first actual confirmation that Black Panther will be coming to Marvel’s Avengers, and is still big news. Although it doesn’t confirm the King of Wakanda as a playable character, it’s worth pointing out that the iconic Avenger was found as part of a recent data mine of all upcoming heroes.
Whilst we’ll have to wait and see what’s coming for a potential Black Panther DLC pack, it won’t be long before those who race through the base game have more to play. With Kate Bishop set to drop with a new Operation in late October, it seems that the future is bright for Avengers fans.
Marvel’s Avengers launches on 4th September, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
