The highly anticipated superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine will receive its first trailer this week, as confirmed by Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool actor posted a brand new poster for the upcoming Marvel Studios film to his social media accounts, which accompanied a new teaser that revealed an official trailer is arriving on 22nd April 2024.
The first teaser debuted during the Super Bowl LVIII on 11th February 2024, in which audiences were provided with a synopsis and treated to a brief appearance of a near-comic book-accurate Wolverine suit. The film marks the return of Hugh Jackman as the iconic X-Men character after relinquishing the claws following the completion of 2017's Logan.
The new teaser opened with a Wolverine figurine of the impaled mutant, followed by several clips of Wolverine from multiple X-Men films and spin-off projects, including X-Men Origins, The Wolverine, and the aforementioned Logan. Reynolds, as Deadpool, narrates the teaser, commenting that Wolverine is "going to hang up the claws, and it's going to make a lot of people very sad."
But one day, your old pal Wade's gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again, and when he does, say yes. I've always wanted to ride with you, Log. Deadpool… and Wolverine!
The new poster seemingly takes a stab at Wolverine, which many eagled-eyed fans noted, parodies the Logan poster that spotlighted Wolverine's arm and the claws on display with X-23 holding his hand. The new Deadpool & Wolverine poster also sees the extended claws of Wolverine but with Deadpool caressing them.
According ot the film's director, Shawn Levy, in an interview with Screen Rant in April 2024, while this film is the third to feature Deadpool, it isn't considered as "Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure," Levy elaborated.
2024 is a quiet year for Marvel Studios following Echo's release in January 2024 and X-Men '97 continuing its nostalgic run on Disney+. With the remaining Phase 5 projects slated for release in 2025, including Captain America: Brave New World, we may get new updates on other potential releases like Daredevil: Born Again and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, likely at a D23 event sometime this year.
