Sometimes, it does feel good to be bad, or in this case, to play potentially great cards to ensure a bad outcome for their opponents. Marvel Snap's April 2024 season has arrived, and the antihero team, the Thunderbolts, takes centerstage this month with new cards, including Baron Zemo.
While the character's MCU counterpart may have contributed to the card's popularity before its release, the Baron keeps his eyes on what's in their opponent's deck before using his influence to have them join the team. As such, we'll be looking at what we should know about Baron Zemo, including its card ability, how to acquire the card, and some of the best decks to try at its launch for Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Baron Zemo Card Abilities Explained
A new month sees a new season arrive to Marvel Snap centered around the antihero team comprising reformed villains known as the Thunderbolts. While the timing of this season is rather fitting, as the MCU film based on the antihero team is currently in production, two new cards debut this week, with Baron Zemo being one of these new cards.
Zemo is a three-cost, five-energy card that's ready for action with an On Reveal ability that's quite similar to part of Loki's ability. When played, Zemo will "recruit" the lowest-cost card from an opponent's deck to their side of the board at Zemo's location, which, depending on the recruited card's ability, can either help them win or lose a location.
Regardless of the decks, they'll be playing against, players with Zemo in their hand or deck should hold off playing until the later rounds due to the chances of players recruiting less-than-favorable cards to its location. This allows them to scout better what deck their opponent is playing with, which, therefore, it's crucial for players to understand how to play Zemo as his ability is drawing from the deck, and as such, players should be aware of how to capitalize on his ability to trim their opponent's deck.
As for how they can recruit Baron Zemo, this card is the featured card for the new Season Pass, which is available as the Level 1 reward. Additionally, a Zemo variant card will be the Season Pass' Level 50 reward, which players can purchase the Season Pass from the in-game Shop or via the Nuverse web store.
Best Marvel Snap Baron Zemo Card Decks: Zemo Mill
Mill decks could see some rise in popularity, like this deck from ItsGuestGaming with Baron Zemo's release, as they also help remove or burn their opponent's cards, thus removing any control they may have. As they'll be burning their opponent's hand and deck by destroying cards in a deck or hand, including cards that excel at this strategy while placing their opponent at a disadvantage is imperative.
Along with Zemo, other notable Mill deck cards like Yondu and Gladiator will destroy cards it pulls from the deck with Cable drawing a card from the deck to their hand. Having Cosmo as a defensive counter could allow players to play Gladiator or Doctor Octopus, thus preventing Shang-Chi from destroying the latter card.
Playing Zabu could allow them to play other important cards one turns early, like Wong into Zemo and Absorbing Man, which can then be triggered again by the Grand Master. Alternatively, play Yondu or Cable into Grand Master or Wong into Zemo to fill a location and further thin down their opponent's deck before playing Armor or Cosmo, then Doc Ock.
Best Marvel Snap Baron Zemo Card Decks: Zemo In Hiding
Zemo's release will undoubtedly see the Marvel Snap community cook up some diverse decks, and this disruptive control deck from Marvel Snap content creator Drewberry could be worthy enough for the all-mighty Conquest mode. One of the more intriguing cards added is Invisible Woman, which essentially hides cards that may be best played before the game ends, like Baron Zemo or various Ongoing cards like the Ms. Marvel/Blue Marvel combo.
This allows space for players to play Baron Zemo in an adjacent lane with Doctor Doom and Iron Lad to copy the top card's text for some unique plays to occur. Adding a few tech cards like Zabu, Cosmo, Shang-Chi, and Jeff the Baby Land Shark will help players meet certain card conditions for Ms. Marvel or disrupt their opponent's plays like Cosmo and Shang-Chi.
Best Marvel Snap Baron Zemo Card Decks: Surfing With The Baron
Silver Surfer is another card that can synergize with Baron Zemo and is flexible enough to work alongside Zemo in this Surfer deck from DenHearthstone. Its conditions will be met by buffing three-cost cards with +2 Power, which includes Brood, Mobius M. Mobius, Hope Summers, Gladiator, Zemo, and, most importantly, Sebastian Shaw for a double buff.
Having Yondu and Gladiator will aid in thinning their opponent's deck, which can be retriggered when Absorbing Man is played the following turn. Hope Summers will help with energy needs to ensure they can get those all-important cards played, especially if they're falling behind on lane priority, which Cable, Yondu, or Gladiator will help in this regard, or they can play Zemo to draw out a card they have yet to draw themselves.
