Marvel Comics' "What If" series delved into exploring alternate histories of prominent and prolific events within its history, which, at times, "if not turned it on its head." While it had reimagined various stories, key events, and more during its run in the late 70s to early 80s, it gained a huge following after the debut of Marvel Animation's "What If...?" anthology series, becoming a massive hit with audiences.

Marvel Snap's April 2025 season joins the multiversal madness as six new heroes and one nefarious villain join the Marvel Snap universe, and leading the way is Agent Peggy Carter's variant, Captain Carter. This guide delves into everything about our beloved heroine by exploring the card's abilities, identifying her key synergies and top counter, plus spotlighting three heroic decks Captain Carter is featured in for Marvel Snap!

Marvel Snap Captain Carter Card Abilities Explained

April 2025's season for Marvel Snap takes inspiration from the Marvel Animation series "What If...?" in which we see some of Marvel's beloved multiverse heroes joining the battlefield of the popular card battler. One such heroic addition is Agent Peggy Carter, going by her alternate universe variant, Captain Carter, from Marvel Comics and the animated series, joins Marvel Snap as a four Cost and three Power card with an Ongoing ability which, once she's in play, it will "add this card's Power to your back-row cards here" but doesn't apply to Carter herself.

Captain Carter synergizes well with cards that give others Power, like Forge, Galacta, Gwenpool, Ironheart, Nakia, Namora, Okoye, and Spectrum, and the same can be true for Captain America, Blue Marvel, and Spectrum, but also cards that enjoy getting power buffs like Brood, Sebastian Shaw, Cassandra Nova and Iron Man. Additionally, once Captain Carter has been given a Power buff, cards that benefit from her Ongoing ability to buff cards in the back row of a location, including high-Powered cards such as Agamotto, Cull Obsidian, Death, Evolved Hulk Red Hulk, Skaar, and The Infinaut, low-Powered cards like The Hood and Iron Man and Valkyrie who sets card Power to three Power.

However, as expected, she can be countered by Rogue, Red Guardian, and Enchantress, who can steal, remove, and turn off her ability while Goose prevents the card from being played at its location. Super Skrull can function as a counter and a supporting card if Captain Carter is on the board; likewise, she can be supported by other cards to safeguard her ability, like Cosmo and Zabu, which the latter card can reduce her Cost to make her more accessible from Turn 3 onwards.

Captain Carter can be obtained as the Season Pass reward, with the base card available as a Level 1 unlock and Envar Studio's "What If?" variant available at Level 50. Snappers will likely get Captain Carter, should they not get the Season Pass, in the new Snap Packs that will be introduced in the patch updates, arriving either on 29th April 2025 or 3rd June 2025.

Best Marvel Snap Captain Carter Decks: Captain Buffed!

The first spotlighted deck focuses on one key synergy for Captain Carter, which is granting cards power buffs. As mentioned before, there are plenty of cards in Marvel Snap that can achieve this, and some will be featured in this specific deck, along with supporting cards like Grandmaster or Absorbing Man, to copy an On Reveal ability of their choosing.

This power (buff) hungry deck from Marvel Snap content creator Bynx Plays features several On Reveal power buffing cards that target cards in hand like Nakia and Gwenpool and cards in the deck like America Chavez and Okoye. Snappers will have Absorbing Man to copy any of these cards' On Reveal ability to target either Mister Sinister, Mysterio, or Brood to increase their Power, and Psylocke is included to give them extra Energy to play an important card the next turn.

Captain Carter and Galacta, which are four-Cost cards, will buff any card being played for Captain Carter; it will be cards in the back row of her location, and Galacta targets the first card played at an adjacent location. Speaking of Captain Carter, Galacta, and Gwenpool, they can be discounted by playing Zabu as early as possible, from Turn 1 if it's in their hand, to help set up locations and, if played well, may earn them a Victory!

Best Marvel Snap Captain Carter Decks: Carter Off To The Zoo

As mentioned, Captain Carter can be buffed to increase the additional Power other cards could gain from being played in the back row of its location. Low-powered cards can significantly benefit from this additional Power, so it shouldn't be surprising that Captain Carter can also be slotted into Zoo or Ka-Zoo decks!

Captain Carter is certainly "Zooing it for fun" as this new iteration of the classic Ka-Zoo deck from Marvel Snap content creator Alexander Coccia features cards that will take up plenty of board space, like Squirrel Girl and Shanna the She-Devil, which helps reduce Mockingbird's card Cost. Kate Bishop could add two Arrows that may help power locations, such as the Basic and Pym Arrow cards, while Zabu can reduce card Costs for Captain Carter, Galacta, and Ka-Zar.

Sam Wilson / Captain America's Cap's Shield will start the game on the board and is another great candidate to gain a power buff from Captain Carter; however, it will lose it if it moves away from the location. Captain Carter will have Agony to buff its Power, Blue Marvel gives all cards in play additional Power, and Gilgamesh will benefit from having multiple cards with increased Power to gain Power for itself.

Best Marvel Snap Captain Carter Decks: New Agent Carter

Cards like Bast and Agent Venom can set cards' Power value to maximize Captain Carter's potential. (Picture: Second Dinner / Untapped.gg)

Taking some inspiration for this deck's name from the Marvel TV series, Agent Carter, another deck archetype that also synergizes with Captain Carter is the setting Power deck. This specific archetype slowly gained prominence following Agent Venom's release, which focuses on building specific decks that are low-powered to set their Powers to help gain location priority.

As Peggy always keeps her eyes peeled on her opponent's play, she gains the upper hand with this "top secret" deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper, where most cards have 0 Power and less. Using Bast to set cards in their hand to three Power and Agent Venom to set cards in the deck to five Power, depending on what's in their hand, playing Bast on Turn 1 or 2 should be the play, along with Silver Sable and Adam Warlock.

If Agent Venom enters their hand, it can be played on Turn 4; Captain Carter can be on the board at a location with another card in the top row. Mystique can be played to copy either Captain Carter's ability or held off until Iron Man is in play; they can play The Hood at the Captain Carter location, where the final turn could see Sage, the Demon token card, and Havok as the final cards to be on the board.
