Marvel Rivals has launched with Season 1, bringing a wealth of new content, including new members of the Fantastic Four, Invisible Woman, and Mr. Fantastic, along with new skins and, of course, new maps.
One of these maps, Midtown, introduces an exciting new mechanic called Recursive Destruction, which lets players rewind time on certain structures to gain a massive advantage during gameplay. Let’s dive into how it works below.
What Is Recursive Destruction in Marvel Rivals?
Recursive Destruction is a new mechanic introduced in Season 1, exclusive to the Midtown map. This feature allows players to interact with red glowing structures (visible in Chrono Vision mode). By dealing enough damage, these structures transition from broken to fully repaired, making them usable again. Additionally, activating Recursive Destruction is required to complete a mission from the Midnight Features seasonal event.
Initially, the game provides limited guidance on how to use this mechanic or where to find these structures to complete the mission. Beyond fulfilling the quest, Recursive Destruction offers significant tactical benefits. Let’s break down how to use it and what makes it so useful.
How to Use Recursive Destruction and Its Benefits
As mentioned, Recursive Destruction is available only on the Midtown map in Season 1. This mechanic can be utilized in both quick matches and competitive modes. To simplify the process, you can also queue into limited game modes that allow map selection to ensure you play on Midtown.
Once in the game, you’ll find two locations where Recursive Destruction structures are present:
- The pile of rubble inside the station after the first checkpoint.
- The collapsed buildings after the second checkpoint.
To activate Recursive Destruction, you’ll need to deal significant damage to these structures. They require a considerable amount of firepower, so be prepared to focus your efforts. Thankfully, these structures are positioned away from spawn doors and objectives, giving you ample time to interact with them during downtime, such as when returning to the fight from spawn.
Completing the mission grants you 100 Chrono Tokens, but the true strength of Recursive Destruction lies in its tactical advantages during combat. When your team is near one of these structures, coordinating with your squad to attack them can provide multiple strategic benefits, such as creating new lines of sight for engaging enemies, opening flanking routes to catch opponents off guard, and enabling repositioning or rotations when the fight becomes intense.
Now that you know where to find these structures, how to activate them, and the advantages they provide, you’re ready to use Recursive Destruction to your team’s benefit in your next game of Marvel Rivals.
