League of Legends: How To Change Voice To Japanese

League of Legends has become a worldwide phenomenon over the years, expanding to a global audience. As such, the game is now playable in various languages. Not only is this very convenient for those playing outside of English-speaking countries, but is also necessary for cultivating a healthy global esports scene. 

However, if you're a long-time League of Legends fan looking to spice up some of the in-game dialogue you've heard countless times (or are a Japanese-speaking player who has moved overseas), you may want to change the voices and in-game client to Japanese. 

This isn't super obvious as to how it is done. In most cases, there is no readily available language option in the League of Legends client itself. So, we've prepared a short guide to help you get it done. 

How To Change To Japanese Voice In League Of Legends

Changing the League of Legends client to Japanese is relatively simple as long as you know what you are doing. Be sure to follow these quick and easy steps:

1. The first step is to open your League of Legends client.
2. Next, we want to save a shortcut copy of the .exe file and move it to your desktop.
3. After that, Right Click the .exe copy on your desktop, and select properties. 
4. Go to the "Target" field setting and add a space.
5. Input " –locale=ja_JP"
6. Click "Apply" and then "Ok."
7. Open the game again from the copied .exe file on your desktop.
8. Everything should be in Japanese.

Can I Change Only The Voices In League Of Legends?

Unfortunately, there is no way to change only the character's in-game voices to a different language in League of Legends. It is all or nothing, and if you want to have your characters speaking Japanese during gameplay, you will also have to have the entire client and item descriptions in Japanese as well.

If you are a native Japanese speaker, this isn't too big of an issue. However, if you just wanted to hear a new voice on Summoner's Rift, this may prove difficult as you'll no longer be able to read item descriptions or effects.

For League of Legends veterans, this may not prove to be too much of an issue, as they likely already know the effects of items based on images alone. However, if you are a newcomer or aren't that confident with your knowledge of certain items, make sure you think twice before changing the language of your League of Legends client.
