Riot Games has officially announced that League of Legends' ARAM mode will receive a couple of adjustments all in time for Preseason. With League of Legends Preseason 2023 kicking off on 16th November 2022, Riot Games has revealed that ARAM will be taking on a fresh new look and a few changes to make the gameplay mode more interesting, dynamic, and different.
On 14th November 2022, Riot Games announced ARAM would receive a couple of adjustments like Hexgates, falling towers, more brushes, and a couple of in-depth stat buffs and nerfs to improve overall gameplay. Altogether, these adjustments and permanent mechanics will arrive quite soon in patches 12.22 and 12.23.
League of Legends ARAM Gameplay Updates
Gameplay Adjustments
Firstly, there'll be a couple of intriguing changes that affect both minions and Champions, changing the overall gameplay pacing of matches and priorities players might be choosing.
- Omnivamp and Lifesteal against minions will be reduced by 50%.
- Changing the long-range damage modifier: currently, damage dealt by Champions over 1000 units away is reduced by 15%. The reduction will now scale up between 15-30% based on being 1000-2000 distance away. This change nerfs super long-range abilities that players might abuse in matchups.
- Bonus Magic Resist for Melee Champions will be increased from 10 to 15.
These updates are meant to make it hard for enemy ADCs to lifesteal and completely heal back their lost health because of a single minion wave. It also makes it difficult for range Champions to dish out massive poke damage against other players and easier for melee characters to stay alive throughout the match.
Champion Changes
Some changes have made it easier to utilize assassin Champions or enchanters and pull off more viable compositions across matches. Although Riot Games' tools allowed it to navigate certain adjustments that helped balance the game, it was not enough to wholly stabilize the meta and make each character viable and playable in ARAM. That said, Riot Games has upgraded its tools and specifically adjusted Champions that struggle in ARAM or do too well. These adjustments focus on three main areas.
Energy Regeneration
- Targeted at energy-using Champions like Lee Sin and Zed, the management of Energy is intended to be used for quick engages and escapes, but in ARAM, the fight never stops. To make these characters’ patterns a little more accessible and friendly to team fighting, Riot Games is buffing Energy Regeneration for a couple of Champions. The following Champions will gain 20% bonus Energy Regeneration on ARAM: Akali, Kennen, Lee Sin, and Zed.
Tenacity
- ARAM is a bad time if a player dies because of a single crowd-control spell. Riot Games will be giving some of our squishier melee characters bonus Tenacity so that they can shrug off crowd control a little quicker. The following Champions will gain 20% Tenacity on ARAM: Akali, Ekko, Elise, Evelynn, Fizz, Kassadin, Katarina, Kayn, Kha’Zix, Leblanc, Pyke, Qiyana, Rek’Sai, Rengar, Talon, and Zed.
Ability Haste
- Riot Games will be nerfing Ashe. Her ability to build Imperial Mandate and simply spam Volley to slow a whole team has meant that she hasn’t reacted much when Riot Games nerfs her damage. Riot Games will be nerfing her Ability Haste specifically to reduce how often she can cast her team-wide slow and mark spell. Ashe will receive -20 Ability Haste in ARAM.
League of Legends ARAM Howling Abyss Map Updates
Hexgates
To make ARAM a little more fun, Riot Games have added Hexgates. Hexgates will make gameplay feel much more dynamic and fast-paced but also allow teams to play more cohesively and reach the battlefield to battle more frequently. Hexgates will be present from the beginning of the game and will teleport players directly from their Nexus to their outer tower.
Once a player's first tower is destroyed, the Hexgate will then link to their team’s inhibitor tower, where it will then stay for the rest of the game, setting their team up for some fun flanking plays or crazy back doors. And yes, players can use an enemy’s Hexgate.
With this ARAM update, whenever towers are destroyed, they will collapse and leave behind a pile of rubble which will be treated as new terrain. Riot Games' goal with falling towers is to create more interesting situations on the map that break away from the usual straight line of ARAM. Now they'll have new choke points to think about and terrain they can experiment with to create new plays.
New BrushThe caretakers of Howling Abyss have picked up gardening recently. Despite the difficulties of raising plants in the tundra, they have one brand new brush to show for their work. This bush will be on the bottom side of the bridge and is just big enough to fit a full team. Now players can do all of the things that a brush lets them do but on the other side of the bridge. The new brush will inspire new strategies and team plans, allowing groups to perform and play ARAM a little bit .
League of Legends ARAM Special ARAM Clash
Riot Games is hosting a special ARAM Clash event to commemorate the community's support of the gameplay mode. This Clash will be free-to-enter and feature an eight-team bracket where each team can play three matches. Each player will receive two rerolls per game. Registration for this special, for-fun Clash will begin on 5th December 202, and the tournament days will be from 10th to 11th December 2022. Players participating will receive a limited-time, exclusive ARAM clash icon.
