Epic Games has kicked off the new competitive arm of Fortnite with Fortnite Ranked, spanning across both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. The two modes attract a very different type of player, though the chaotic building of classic Battle Royale still draws in a larger player base.
But regardless of which mode appeals to your skills, you can prove your worth in Fortnite Ranked. Like other competitive Battle Royales on the market, players move through a series of ranks to reach the coveted top spot to compete amongst the best of the best. Fortnite's ranks begin with Bronze, then move through Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and then Unreal. Bronze through Diamond has three ranks for players to progress through, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal each have one.
In Ranked Season Zero, players will have a specific selection of playlists available to them. In Battle Royale, players can hop into Ranked through Solo, Duos and Squads. In Zero Build, however, the choice falls to just Duos.
Aside from bragging rights, there's plenty of other incentives to move yourself through the many ranks, such as earning seasonal rewards. These include various cosmetics, such as Emotes, Loading Screens and more.
But Ranked modes, across any game, require a lot of energy and commitment. In the case of Fortnite, players have two modes to choose between when it comes to spending their time. So do the two modes share the ranks?
Fortnite Ranked Battle Royale vs. Zero Build: Do They Share Ranks?
Both Battle Royale and Zero Build mode in Fortnite Ranked have their own ranks for players to work through. This means that if you've hit Gold Rank on Battle Royale, you won't be fast-tracked to the same tier in Zero Build. You'll need to work at each mode separately to reach the top spots on both.
In both modes, players will need to determine their starting ranks. This is based on past match performance as well as performance in their first Ranked Battle Royale or Ranked Zero Build matches (depending on which mode you're committing to). Once your rank has been revealed, you can begin to match up against those of a similar skill.
If you're playing Solo, you'll be matched based on your own rank. If you're teaming up for Duos or Squads, matchmaking will be based on the "party rank." This is equivalent to the highest-ranked player on the team, and you'll be matched against teams of an equal or similar party rank.
