Where Do You Go First In Elder Scrolls Online?

There's a huge amount of content in The Elder Scrolls Online, so it can be tricky to work out where to go first after the tutorial.

The Elder Scrolls Online is every Elder Scrolls fanatic's dream. A huge MMORPG that has players visiting nearly every corner of Tamriel, and sometimes further. Whether you're looking to revisit Morrowind or the province of Cyrodiil, or you want to explore the fully formed region of Wrothgar, all is possible in ESO.

But if you're starting your journey for the first time, have finished the tutorial and are now standing at the portals wondering where to begin — well, we're here to help. To be clear, there's no wrong way to go about your adventure in Tamriel, but if you're looking for a rounded, more chronological experience, then there's certainly some good starting locales.

Where To Go After The Tutorial In Elder Scrolls Online

Like all MMORPGs, The Elder Scrolls Online has a main story campaign. In ESO, this largely revolves around the fight against Molag Bal and his quest to meld the mortal plane with Coldharbour. A secondary story also takes place regarding the struggle for the imperial throne between three Alliances. You would have chosen your starting Alliance during character creation. But don't worry, you'll get the chance to play through them all if you wish.

Given that these two stories will intertwine somewhat, a great place to start your journey - right from the beginning - is by heading to your Alliance's starting quest locations. These are:

  • Aldmeri Dominion: Khenarthi's Roost, Elsweyr
  • Daggerfall Covenant: Stros M'Kai, Hammerfell
  • Ebonheart Pact: Bleakrock Isle, Skyrim

Depending on your Alliance, you'll be able to progress the main story through one of these areas. Each of these starting areas are small, so it shouldn't take too long to complete everything they have to offer. As you progress through these initial quests, you'll then be put on the path that takes you to the next zone in the story.

For the Aldmeri Dominion, you'll next head to Auridon on the Summerset Isles. For the Daggerfall Covenant, you'll be sent to Betnikh, then onto Glenumbra in High Rock. And for the Ebonheart Pact, you'll arrive in Bal Foyen and then onto Stonefalls in central Morrowind.

Where To Go After Completing The Main Story In Elder Scrolls Online

If you've finished the main story campaign in Elder Scrolls Online, and have either played through the other factions questlines (or are just ready to move on entirely), your next port of call is one of the game's many DLC zones.

Thankfully, these DLC zones and expansions can be worked through chronologically. Given that there's such a huge array of content, we've put together a comprehensive guide that'll help you pick through it all in order. Check out our guide: How To Play ESO In Chronological Order: Base Game, Expansions, DLC

To get you started, the first Chapter to experience after the main story is the Morrowind Chapter. This will take players to the region of Vvardenfell, a large island off the coast of mainland Tamriel. Veteren players will remember this region as the main setting for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Players will be able to revist cities such as Vivec City, Balmora, and set foot on the port of Seyda Need once more, now with upgraded graphics and environments. The area's soundtrack is a pure delight, too.
