ESO Golden Pursuits System Explained: How it Works, Activities, Rewards And More

Developer ZeniMax Online Studios continuously expands ways to enhance players' in-game experiences by adding unique gameplay content, features, mechanics, and more for The Elder Scrolls Online. Following the successful launch of the Gold Road expansion in June 2024, there have been a few smaller content and patch updates to ensure stability but add worthwhile content to explore, like new limited-time events, plenty of rewards, and free Anniversary treats.

With Update 44's launch right around the corner on 28th October 2024 for PC and Mac, currently available through the Public Test Servers (PTS), ZeniMax Online Studios released details on Golden Pursuits, a new system which they hope to be more rewarding for players in-game. This guide looks to deliver on that "golden" promise as we explain everything we know thus far about the Golden Pursuits system and how this can be rewarding for its player base for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO).

What Is Golden Pursuits In The Elder Scrolls Online?

ZeniMax Online Studios published a new developer blog announcing that Update 44 will welcome a new in-game system, Golden Pursuits, which goes alongside the update for PCs, first on 28th October 2024 and later for consoles on 13th November 2024. Golden Pursuits is a new rewards system that the developer stated was designed "to create new reasons to play and new ways for players to earn in-game rewards.

So what does this entail, and how do ZeniMax Online Studios set out to establish new ways to play and earn rewards? With Golden Pursuits, this in-game rewards system was "intended to give players the opportunity to earn extra rewards for trying out different systems and features,” according to the game's Systems Designer, Katie Yu.

Golden Pursuits focuses on "specific aspects of the game," gameplay themes, or supporting in-game events as opportunities for players to complete a Golden Pursuit campaign and be awarded bountiful rewards. However, Golden Pursuit campaigns will differ in multiple aspects, from their difficulties, availability (time and event length), and the amount and value of the rewards offered.

Positioned to be "exciting, spontaneous events" when active, Golden Pursuits won't have a set schedule when they become available as their frequency can range between days, weeks, or months. Additionally, when they're available, players can easily access this in-game rewards system from the Announcement Panel and also from Group and Activity Finder, so they never have to look high or low to find its campaigns.

What Can Players Expect From Golden Pursuits For The Elder Scrolls Online?

As it's being made clear, this in-game rewards system will feature campaigns and various activities that will vary in terms of "size and scope," this will apply to the rewards they can receive. "Generally, the activities will be very similar to what players have been seeing from Endeavors," of which 'the number can vary—some Golden Pursuits may offer only a few activities, while others may provide more options for players to peruse before deciding how they want to earn their rewards," Yu elaborated.

With Golden Pursuits looking to spotlight various gameplay aspects, from participating in PvP activities, exploring what the Home Tours feature has to offer, or just standard exploration of Tamriel, it's these types of content that will earn them various rewards of which the developer highlighted some that may be available when it launches in Update 44.

“Players can expect to see mounts, pets, costumes, furnishings—the list goes on. There’s a wide variety of cosmetics, minor utility items such as potions and meals, currencies, and more from Golden Pursuits, and we're really excited to give players new opportunities to earn them,” Yu explained.
