The last couple of days saw a surge in the number of Cyberpunk 2077 players on Steam and the game's sales, and oddly enough, a rise in the game's overall Steam score due to predominately positive reviews given by new players.
It seems that the fresh influx of players, unaffected by the disastrous Cyberpunk 2077 launch a year ago, had quite a positive impact on the game's tarnished reputation.
While it still lacks numerous features and gameplay elements that were promised before the release, the current version of the game is mostly cleaned up of the horrendous bugs and glitches while also being better and better optimised with each new patch, which is enough for players to at least enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 without hindrances.
And there is more good news for Cyberpunk 2077 this week, as the game's publisher, CD Projekt, has confirmed that there's a lot to look forward to when it comes to the first quarter of 2022 and Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen version and "major update" coming in Q1 2022, new expansion still in the works
CD Projekt has released an official press release that highlights some of the more interesting details from the Q3 2021 financial report, focusing mostly on current and feature game development.
The press release confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077's next-gen update is still planned for the first quarter of 2022, but the news revealed that the game will receive another "major update" for all platforms at the same time.
While the press release doesn't go into details about this major update, we can assume that it will be something similar to previous big patches, which have delivered free DLCs, quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and optimisation.
The press release also mentions that further down the line (most likely in Q2 of 2022) we can expect to get The Witcher 3 next-gen update and the first big expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, which is confirmed to still be in development.
And to tickle our fancy, CD Projekt revealed that they are currently doing "exploratory work on new projects which are at an early stage of development", one almost certainly being the next Witcher game while we have no clues on what other title could be. Maybe an entirely new IP?
