With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just a few days away, the excitement for this game has reached an all-time high. There are many who have been excited to see what kind of throwbacks Tears of the Kingdom will bring along with all the new content that the game has promised. New powers, Korok Seeds, and so much more are coming with this game.
One of the biggest things in The Legend of Zelda series is the dungeons. Dungeons are what defined Zelda games for a very long time as the main reason to play these games. Traditional Zelda dungeons were notably absent in Breath of the Wild. But it seems like traditional Zelda dungeons are coming back in Tears of the Kingdom.
Traditional Zelda Dungeons Are Returning In Tears Of The Kingdom
Nintendo recently did a Ask the Developer segment where the developers of Tears of the Kingdom were asked a series of questions. The question was pretty simple: "This title has its dungeons too, right?" The following was the response from the developers:
Fujibayashi: "Yes, we haven't talked about the dungeons yet. They've changed from the previous game. For example, there is a dungeon that connects directly from Hyrule's surface. If you dive from the sky straight into the dungeon, you'll trigger an event. We think this will be a new experience that wasn't possible in the previous game."
Dohta: "We’ve made dungeons unique to their respective environments, so we think you’ll be able to enjoy the wide variety of regional characteristics."
Takizawa: "Making a "wide variety" was pretty challenging. The four Divine Beasts were the dungeons in the last game, and they shared similar designs. This time, the dungeons are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel, just like traditional The Legend of Zelda games. We think they will provide a satisfying challenge for players. They were certainly a challenge to develop! (Laughs)"
As you can see, the developers have confirmed that a wide variety of traditional Zelda dungeons are coming in Tears of the Kingdom. In Breath of the Wild, the Dunegons had the same environment throughout the game. Although they were enjoyable, fans missed being immersed in a dungeon that was reflective of the environment.
What Kind Of Dungeons Is Coming To Tears Of The Kingdom?
From the Q&A from Nintendo, there will be a wide variety of traditional Zelda Dungeons. In Breath of the Wild, the only traditional Zelda dungeon that the game really had was Hyrule Castle at the end before you set off to face the final boss of the game. From the trailers though, we can see that there will be a lot more dungeons in the game.
From what we have seen, there will be a traditional dungeon in the mountain, in the desert, and in the skies. The details of these dungeons have yet to be seen though. There is also the fact that we do not know if the dungeons will function like traditional Zelda dungeons. There could be new elements in the game that make Tears of the Kingdom Dungeons more unique compared to older Zelda games.
