There are a staggering amount of sandbox tools for you to use and toy around with in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. From fusing strange materials into your weapons and making them more lethal or putting these equally strange materials into a cooking pot and creating the most grotesque edible ever, there are too many options for you to tinker and experiment with.
While there are tutorials for some of the game's elements, there are a vast majority of things and mechanics left for you to discover at your own pace. One such hidden gameplay element is the ability to shield surf. It's so much fun to use we have to spoil it for you! Here's how to shield surf in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How to Surf Using Your Shield in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
To shield surf in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, simply press ZL + X + A on your Switch or controller. If you press these on a downhill surface or the new rail tracks scattered all over Hyrule and Sky Islands, you will start to shield surf your way down. However, doing so will damage your equipped shield and eventually break it. The fun factor is just too much to really care about shields though, and since they are easily replaceable, you can sacrifice them without a second thought.
However, keep in mind that you won't be able to use a shield fused with other objects like a rock for surfing. You also can't surf on a flat surface, which you probably already knew.
That concludes our guide on how to shield surf in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
