The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will have Link explore new and returning locations, each possessing unique biomes and weather conditions for Link to encounter. This includes snow, and cold weather, which can be overcome using various combat and cosmetic items that Link can find across the land and skies of Hyrule.
How you can keep this chill off Link will have you ascend to the skies in pursuit of a pair of trousers. This guide explains how to get the Archaic Warm Greaves to keep Link warm in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Survive The Cold with Cold Resistance Armor
Resistances are returning for Tears of the Kingdom as a means for Link to survive extreme weather conditions. Likewise, there are ways to protect him from freezing or burning to his demise by utilizing various food items like Spicy Peppers and consumables like elixirs to grant Link resistance buffs.
This also extends to armor which can aid Link in navigating biomes that feature cold, snow, or extreme heat weather conditions. In Tears of the Kingdom, there are unique armor pieces that can be found, which grant Link Cold Resistance and can be found throughout Hyrule.
The Archaic Warm Greaves is an early game armor piece that can be acquired to provide Link with the Cold Resistance buff. To find this armor piece, you must travel to the Great Sky Island and find the Gutanbac Shrine on the island's eastern side to solve the Shrine puzzle.
This location will be where you are granted the ability to rise or Ascend, which can be helpful if you wish to descend back to the grounds of Hyrule. Head northeast from this location to find a large tree stump with a cave beneath it, and using the Ascend ability, you reach the top of the tree stump.
Head inside and look for a chest in the right corner of the shrine, as opening the chest will award you with the Archaic Warm Greaves. These trousers, once equipped, will keep Link warm when exploring locations with cold temperatures fairly early in-game.
There will be better armor pieces and consumable items to help combat the cold weather, but this is your best option until you've progressed further in Tears of the Kingdom. This item will decrease Link's defense stats, so while wearing these trousers, try your best to avoid enemies or risk losing those precious Hearts.
