Last year it was widely reported that a next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2 was once in development before being scrapped, and thanks to a series of leaks from the Xbox FTC trial it appears that those rumours were accurate, or at the very least that Microsoft themselves believed the rumours.
Microsoft Releases All The Documents
The court documents that were leaked by the FTC include a selection of emails from May 2022 that have a table that lists games that Microsoft would like to see on Xbox Game Pass, how likely they think it is that they'll actually be able to close the deal and price estimates for the deal. There are games here that you'd expect to see such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dying Light 1, and Return To Monkey Island.
One extremely interesting mention here is a Generation 9 version of Red Dead Redemption 2. For those among you who don't know your Generation, the current generation is Generation 9, which suggests that at a certain point, Red Dead Redemption 2 did indeed have a next-generation version in development. It's very possible that this was before Rockstar canceled the port, though, so it may not be worth getting your hopes up.
Another game listed is 'Assassin's Creed Rift', which is noted as possibly being a remaster of Assassin's Creed 1. Assassin's Creed Mirage was heavily rumored to be this until the reveal, so perhaps Microsoft is going off industry talk and internal rumblings rather than anything that has been officially confirmed.
