Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story is a brand new game coming from Riot Forge, Riot Games' publishing division focused on cooperation with third-party developers with a goal to create a diverse lineup of single-player experiences set in the League of Legend universe.
The first such game was announced a year ago, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, and now Riot has prepared a surprise reveal of a new League of Legends Story game - Hextech Mayhem.
Unlike Ruined King, which still hasn't been released a year after its reveal, the Hextech Mayhem announcement comes just a week before its release, so let's check out what we know about it.
Hextech Mayhem release date
If you are wondering when is Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story coming out, the answer is soon. Very, very, soon.
Riot Forge announced Hextech Mayhem today, 9th November, and the game is set to be released a week later, on 16th November, with pre-orders already available across all platforms.
What is Hextech Mayhem?
Hextech Mayhem is the second announced "A League of Legends Story" game, developed by Choice Provisions and published by Riot Forge.
It is a single-player game set in a League of Legends universe described as "rhythm bombing."
Much like Bit. Trip Runner, the developers' previous rhythm game, Hextech Mayhem is a fast-paced rhythm runner where we play as Ziggs, the chaotic main character trying to outrun the boring Heimerdinger who doesn't like the former's music and love of explosions.
If you are a League of Legends player, you might already be familiar with both Ziggs and Heimerdinger, a pair of Yordles who now have their own game!
"Bomb, bounce, and bop to the beat of the music to avoid obstacles, disarm enemies, and light fuses to achieve maximum chaos", reads the announcement. "Cause musical mayhem while outrunning no-fun-allowed Heimerdinger in your quest to build the greatest bomb the world has ever seen!"
Hextech Mayhem gameplay
Being a rhythm runner game, the core gameplay consists of running and hitting the right beats in order to advance past obstacles.
Ziggs, the main protagonist, will be able to perform moves like bomb jumps and bomb attacks which will help him to avoid obstacles, disarm enemies, and "light fuses for satisfying and explosive chain reactions."
It's not exactly the easiest thing to understand Hextech Mayhem gameplay if you haven't had experience with a rhythm runner game before, therefore it might be worth checking out the announcement trailer so that you can visualise the concept.
As you can see in the trailer, levels will have progressively more complex layouts with more things to worry about, and as with many other rhythm runner games, we expect Hextech Mayhem to pose a serious challenge, especially at the later stages of the game.
Hextech Mayhem platforms and price
As we've already mentioned, Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story is set to be released on 16th November, and it's coming to Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games.
The game is already available on all platforms for pre-order, priced at € 8.99 € or £7.69 if you're living in the UK.
