Gears Tactics is a forthcoming turn-based strategy spinoff, developed by Splash Damage, and it's coming to Steam and Windows Store on 28 April.

Gears Tactics is set 12 years before the events in the first Gears of War. The Locust Horde is destroying cities on the planet Sera, while the government is in disarray, and we are the last hope of humanity. We play as Gabe Diaz, and we will recruit, develop and command our squad, in a very similar fashion to XCOM games, but of course with a lot of unique gameplay elements.

Developers promises immersive and character-driven story, customizable squad and equipment, massive boss battles with fast-paced, turn-based action, full of excitement and big surprises.

What's very interesting is that just earlier today, 2k announced a new XCOM game, a spin-off called XCOM: Chimera Squad, which will be a direct competitor to Gears Tactics. The game will even come out 4 days earlier (April 24) and it will cost only 10 dollars on the launch, while Gears Tactics is $70.

There's no doubt that this sudden announcement and blitzkrieg release of XCOM: Chimera Squad will heavily influence how well will Gears Tactics sell.
