One of the most famous adventure games from the 90s and early 00s will become the latest video game transition to a TV show.
Myst will get a TV series adaptation

If you were the 90s and early 00s gamer, you almost surely know for the legendary adventure game Myst.

Released in 1993, Myst was the best-selling PC game of all time for almost a full decade, until 2002, and has sold over 15M copies.

Myst's story revolves around an explorer named Atrus. He has a unique ability to write books that serve as links to other worlds, known as Ages. This practice of creating linking books was developed by an ancient civilization known as the D'ni. This civilization is almost extinct, after being ravaged by a mysterious disease.

Over the course of the series, Atrus writes a new Age for the D'ni survivors to live on, and we as players are taking the role of 'the Stranger', with the task to help Atrus by travelling to other Ages and solving puzzles.

We haven't seen new Myst singleplayer game in 15 years, since the Myst V: End of Ages, back in 2005, and the last game in the series was Myst Online: Uru Live, from 2010.

And now, we have some big news for the franchise - there are plans for the Myst TV series!

Behind this project is Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, and they have just hired writer Ashley Edward Miller. Miller is known for his work on X-Men: First Class, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Black Sails and Lore. He will write the pilot episode and will be the showrunner of the adaptation. One of the Myst co-creators, Rand Miller, will work with his youngest brother Ryan Miller as a producer on the show.

We have yet to find out more details about the show itself - will to story follow already established stories from previous games, or will it take an original approach and tell a new story? The world of Myst is huge and full of untapped potential, and so it would be interesting to see showrunners exploring some new Ages tell us new stories.
