Nowadays when people think about Insomniac Games, their first association is Marvelâs Spider-Man, a 2018 PlayStation exclusive masterpiece. But the beloved studio has 24 years of history behind them, and they've made some of their best games in the era of the first three PlayStation consoles.
For original PlayStation, they created legendary Spyro the Dragon trilogy. PlayStation 2 era was marked by Ratchet & Clank series, and then for PlayStation 3, the Resistance series are born.
The first game in the series, Resistance: Fall of Man, was a PlayStation 3 launch title, in 2006 and quickly became the first PlayStation 3 game that has sold over 1 million copies. The game is a first-person shooter, set in an alternate history 1951, and follows Sergeant Nathan Hale as he and the human resistance forces attempt to drive a mysterious alien-like invasion out of the United Kingdom.
Resistance: Fall of Man quickly became a massive hit, praised by fans and critics alike, winning several awards, and spawning 2 sequels and one spin-off. The title is beloved by the fans and even though sequels weren't nearly as good or well-selling, fans still want to see more Resistance games. And their wishes might just come true.
This weekend, official Insomniac Games Twitter posted a screenshot from Resistance: Fall of Man, which game completely out of the blue. The caption "Do you feel lucky, punk?" is from the famous Clint Eastwood movie Dirty Harry, and the screenshot shows an alien from the Resistance franchise, species called Chimeras.

The last game in the series, Resistance 3, was released back in 2011, almost 10 years ago, so it does look like it might be a perfect time for some kind of a reboot or remake/remaster for PlayStation 5. Insomniac Games was last year acquired by Sony for $229 million, and now they are, officially, the first-party developer for PlayStation, although they were practically first-party even in their past, with many of their games being founded and published by Sony to be Sony exclusives.
We know that one of their two studios is almost surly working on Spider-Man sequel for PlayStation 5 (headquarters in Burbank), which means that the other studio in Durham, North Carolina is working on something yet to be announced. Is it a new Resistance game? We'll have to wait for more clues.
