Grounded is coming this summer

The studio famously known for their deep RPG titles is this time around coming with something completely different.
Grounded is coming this summer

When you think about Obsidian Entertainment, you naturally think about games like Fallout New Vegas, Kotor 2, The Outer Worlds, Pillars of Eternity... These games all have in common that they are RPG titles, with a strong focus on world-building and deep narrative.

And then the last E3 we got the announcement of their newest game: Grounded.

Grounded is a co-op survival game, made by a small team at Obsidian that shared love for survival games and wanted to try something with that genre. In Grounded you play as children shrunk down to tiny size trying to survive in a backyard environment, full of bugs, ants, worms and other critters. As in any other survival game, your goal will be to collect resources, make things, craft stuff, and simply try to survive and progress further. Progression through the game will have Metroidvania elements, which means that some areas will be inaccessible until you acquire some new tools or abilities which will enable you to go further, but developers mentioned that you will also be able to "cheat the system" sometimes.

Today at Inside Xbox live stream we saw a new trailer for the game, which finally showed us a bit more about the story and the world of the game. We already knew that we are small, very small - smaller then bugs. The machine that made us that way is broken, and so we need to survive: make shelter, weapons, tools, collect resources... and unveil the mystery in the process. This all has been told to us by some strange robot, and he also mentions some "things" that are watching us, which I guess will be the main story element of the game.

The game is finally getting some concrete shape and it looks really exciting, especially since Obsidian promised good narrative, not just your regular and generic survival game. And we finally know when will we get to play the game - the official release for Early Access is July 28  (Steam Early Access, Xbox Game Preview, and Xbox Game Pass for PC).
