Just like in real life, good and healthy food is essential in Valheim.
In terms of gameplay, food in Valheim will give you various bonuses, so it is crucial to eat all kinds of food to maximise their beneficial effects.
In the early stages of the game, you will eat mostly what you find, things like mushrooms, berries, and meat, but later on, you will get access to advanced equipment which will allow you to create more elaborate food and which will give you even more bonuses and advantages in battles.
One of the most useful foods you can get in Valheim is mead, which can be made with the Cauldron.
Here's everything you need to know about mead.
How to brew Mead in Valheim
Making a cauldron is the first step, followed by a fermenter (Picture: Iron Gate)
To brew mead, you will need to have a cauldron.
To make a cauldron, you will first need to have a campfire set.
The Cauldron is crafted with the Hammer, found under the Building tab, and you will need Tin x10 for it.
Once you have your Cauldron set, you are almost ready to start making delicious mead!
Of course, you will need necessary resources for a mead base, which you will then put into the Cauldron to brew it.
But that's just the first part since you will need a fermenter as well in order to make usable mead.
To unlock the fermenter, you will need to craft a forge and a workbench, after which you will use these materials to create a fermenter:
- Bronze x5
- Fine Wood x30
- Resin x10
When you have both cauldron and fermenter set, you now have everything you need to start creating all kinds of mead.
How to use the fermenter for mead
With the help of a fermenter, you will be able to make various types of mead (Picture: Iron Gate)
When you brew a mead base with the cauldron, you can then put that mead base into the fermenter to create one of the several mead types:
- Poison Resistance Mead
- Medium Stamina Mead
- Minor Stamina Mead
- Tasty Mead
- Medium Health Mead
- Minor Health Mead
- Frost Resistance Mead
For most of these recipes, you will need honey, which you can get from a beehive with a queen bee.

Here are all the mead recipes.

And that's it, now you know everything you need to know about mead in Valheim. Various mead types in the game are essentially potions of Valheim, and as in any RPG, you will always have to have them in sufficient quantities with you, especially when going into fights and far away from your base.
