Valheim Ashlands Biome Release Date Speculation
With the Valheim Mistlands update released on 6th December 2022, you shouldn't expect the new biome, Ashlands, to be released any time soon. It is currently in the pre-production phase.
To get an idea of when the Valheim Ashlands biome could release, let's look at the game's major content update release date history, starting with the release into Steam Early Access.
Major Valheim Content | Release Dates |
Launch into Steam Early Access | 2nd February 2021 |
Hearth and Home update | 16th September 2021 |
Mistlands update | 6th December 2022 |
Ashland Biome | TBA |
Hildir’s Quest | TBA |
With the historical data in mind, our best guestimate is that the Valheim Ashlands biome could release in late 2023 or Q1 2024. It is, however, possible that the developer could release Hildir's Quest first...
Please note this is pure speculation, and there is no official release date or even a window just yet. We will update you as soon as there is one.
What is Hildir's Quest in Valheim?
Hildir's Quest is a project that the developers are working on for Valheim as well. We know there will be a new NPC and "fun things" alongside a way to re-style a character's hair.
The developers explain how they are working both on the Ashlands biome and Hildir's Quest project for Valheim and how one shouldn't take a lot of dev time away from the other:
Hildir’s Quest will also have some other fun things, like an additional NPC (the eponymous Hildir herself) and a way for you to re-style your existing characters’ hair! Don’t worry though, an update like this won’t be taking any significant time away from the development of the Ashlands. Due to the nature of game development, not everyone can work on the same thing at the same time, and working on something like Hildir’s Quest will ensure that the Ashlands pre-production can proceed while the team works as efficiently as possible.
Valheim Ashlands First Details & Location
Developer Iron Gate AB has confirmed Ashlands as the next biome for Valheim via a blog post and shared some of the first details.
So far, we know that the location is to the far South of the Valheim map. The Valheim Ashlands biome will be a "large chunk of land", so definitely what players are generally used to.
The developers have also explained that the Ashlands biome is "a land of the dead" and volcanic in nature. Currently, they are exploring the concept further and looking forward to finding out where it leads them. Iron Gate AB further explains a bit about their development process on Ashlands compared to Mistlands:
When it comes to development itself, there is something we would like to do very differently this time. With the Mistlands, we were very secretive. This is great for those who want to discover as much as possible for themselves (which is the main reason why we kept so much hidden), but it’s also not very transparent.
Therefore, our ambition with the development of the Ashlands is to show you a lot more of the process. This will mean you will see things in their early stages, and maybe even things that won’t end up making it into the game at all, but you will also hopefully have a better understanding of how far along the development has gotten.
New Valheim Enemies for Ashlands
