On 10 November 2022, streaming platform Netflix released the newest trailer for Dragon Age: Absolution, a new six-episode animated series co-produced by Canadian developer BioWare. The show, which was first announced during the 2022 Geeked Week event, is expected to closely follow the lore and storyline of BioWare's 2009 roleplaying video game Dragon Age: Origins and spinoff titles.
According to the trailer, Dragon Age: Absolution will release on Netflix on 9 December 2022. The game adaptation will comprise six episodes lasting 30-minutes in duration each. In addition, the show is led by animation and comic book author Mairghread Scott, whose work spans prominent titles like Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors, and more.
Furthermore, the trailer reveals that Dragon Age: Absolution will trace the story of the formerly enslaved elven protagonist Miriam and will be set in the Tevinter Empire. The series' official description on Netflix reads: "With great power at stake, a group of mages, fighters, and thieves goes head to head against a sinister force possessing a dangerous artifact [fueled by blood magic]."
Netflix further elaborated on the show's premise: "When a heist against the most powerful man in Tevinter goes south, an elven mercenary named Miriam (Kimberly Brooks) is forced into a desperate fight for survival. Now, to save herself and her friends, Miriam will have to confront the tragic past she’s spent a lifetime trying to escape."
Accordingly, we can anticipate that Dragon Age: Absolution will follow Miriam's battle with her emotions: will she complete her mission of stealing the Circulum Infinitus, or will she become overwhelmed by the trauma of her tragic past? The series also appears to be set in the same timeline as the fourth iteration of the Dragon Age game franchise: Dreadwolf, expected to release sometime in 2023.
Netflix is expected to reveal more details about the animated series on 4 December 2022. We will endeavor to update you regarding any further developments.
