Ted Lasso is back! The football show that swept the comedy awards in 2020 is returning for a second season on Apple TV, with the streaming service debuting a new trailer at their ‘Spring Loaded’ event this week.
The acclaimed series stars Jason Sudeikis as an American Football coach who is hired by Premier League team Richmond FC, even though he has no real soccer knowledge.
Preaching belief and kindness, Lasso is initially mocked by the Richmond faithful but soon wins over both the players and fans, even though their season ends in relegation.
The show also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed and Phil Dunster.
The first series won Sudeikis Best Comedy Actor at the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards, while the show also won Best Comedy Series at the latter.
The new season finds Richmond fighting for promotion, debating whether or not to hit the panic button when they draw eight games in a row, and bringing in a sports psychologist, played by Sarah Niles (Rocks, I May Destroy You). Ted also tries to wrap his head around “girl talk,” while the trailer ends with a dig at the New York Jets.
Season 2 of Ted Lasso debuts 23rd July on Apple TV, while the show has already been renewed for a third season.
