Netflix has announced that the next season of anime Castlevania will be the last in that iteration of the franchise. But there are also plans for a new series set in the same universe.
The first season of the gothic horror debuted on the streaming service in 2017, and as well as being a video game adaptation, the Castlevania was Netflix’s first foray into animation. The show ran for three seasons, with The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage voicing vampire-hunter Vincent Belmont, and another Hobbit star – Graham McTavish – lending his vocals to Dracula.
Netflix tweeted Season 4 would be the last series via a trailer promising that proceedings will end where they started on May 13. But then Deadline exclusively revealed that the streaming service “is eyeing a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with a entirely new cast of characters.”
There’s no word yet regarding where that story might go, but the fact that the original Konami game debuted in 1986, and has since spawned scores of titles across most major platforms mean there’s much source material to be mined.
