Once you get it, you'll know: Mystery Boxes are shown on the screen, and you're told that Mystery Boxes can now be found.

- Opening Fishing Treasure Chests

How To Open Mystery Boxes
Once you have a Mystery Box, you'll, of course, want to open it. You can't do this on your own, though; you'll have to head out to see Clint, the Blacksmith. You've likely gone to meet up with Clint before to enlist his help in cracking some geodes, so you'll definitely recognize him.
You'll need to get to his shop during its open hours, and bring with you 25 Gold for each Mystery Box you'd like to open. Thankfully, his shop is open almost every day (except for Friday) during consistent hours (9AM-4PM) every season.
Once you're inside, just walk up to Clint and pick "process geodes." Then, just like the geodes you've likely processed before, you can place the Mystery Box under Clint's anvil and have him break it for you at the cost of 25 Gold each.
