Does Stardew Valley Have Cross-Progression?

Stardew Valley was once only available on PC, but developer ConcernedApe has branched out to release the game on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile. As players pick up the game on new and different platforms, it raises a question for many: does Stardew Valley have cross-progression? If you switch between devices, can you take your progress with you as you go, or do you have to start over?

This is a pretty common question, but thankfully, we're here to answer it. If you're unsure of whether Stardew Valley has cross-progression, read on; we'll explain the game's cross-play situation.

Does Stardew Valley Have Cross-Progression?

Unfortunately no, Stardew Valley does not currently offer cross-progression or crossplay.

In other words, if you start a save on your PC, you won't be able to switch over to it on your Xbox or another platform, and vice versa. You'll have to start a new save on each platform on which you want to play the game.

This is a major inconvenience for players who play the game on multiple platforms, but there's no way to get around the lack of crossplay in Stardew Valley.

Is Cross-Progression Coming To Stardew Valley?

For fans who have been wanting cross-progression in Stardew Valley for years, the last update on the topic from ConcernedApe isn't great news. ConcernedApe was asked on Twitter back in 2018 whether crossplay would be added to the game.

While the developer mentioned that they "really want to add" crossplay, they also stated that "there will not be crossplay" in Stardew Valley due to the high technical barriers.

Cross-progression is something that a lot of Stardew Valley fans have been asking for since the game was released on consoles, but, unfortunately, it is not coming soon. The technical barriers for crossplay in Stardew Valley are just too high, so ConcernedApe has instead spent the past few years developing other new features, like Ginger Island. 

There is also the 1.6 update in the works, so while cross-progression might not be coming to the game, fans still have something to look forward to!
