Fans eager to fight the Empire are falling at the first hurdle in Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, after many claim to have experienced severe server issues. Launching on March 14, 2024, many were hoping to head straight into online matches of the remastered Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II, but those on PC quickly found that the games seemed to only have three servers online.
Update 15 March: Aspyr have released an update on the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.
One user took to Steam to express their frustrations, saying, "10,000 people playing on launch night. Only has 3 servers that have 64 slots for a total of ~200 players. Multiplayer doesn't work otherwise..."
For many the trouble was simply getting into an online match and, when they eventually did, players reported unstable connections and bugged features such as being unable to join teams.
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has been developed by Aspyr who released a statement, saying, "At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser.
Since launch, we’ve been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilized to prevent further outages."
While the fixes are a welcome arrival, for a title sitting at roughly $35, it's a big monetary commitment for choppy gameplay.
Another Steam reviewer wrote, "Was only able to join one Hero's VS Villains match and the Hero's side was completely broken. No one could join the Hero's team which resulted in no one to fight against. I figured this may have been just a BF2 issue so I hopped on over to play BF1 multiplayer. There's 0 servers up for BF1. Wow."
For those looking to hop into the collection in single-player or co-op, it seems issues are scarce. Those on PC should, for now, stick with playing offline for a smoother experience.
