Konami revealed lots of new information about the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake at the State of Play and Silent Hill Transmission, including an October release date and almost fifteen minutes of gameplay footage. With lots of new insights on the soon-to-release game by Bloober Team and Konami now made official, discussion on the title has ramped up yet again, and fans of the iconic horror franchise seem to have mixed opinions.

Many fans compared the game's design to that of Capcom's highly successful Resident Evil 4 remake, both in its combat and visual style. Some even joked that this new rendition of James Sunderland looks a lot like Resident Evil 4 remake's Leon Kennedy:

James Sunderland isn't the only character who sees some changes from his original look in the new game, though. While the game's protagonist at least still sports the same outfit he always has, Maria sees some heavier changes to her appearance. She loses her iconic leopard print skirt and pink crop top for a black dress and a pink jacket with a buckle around the waist. Some fans say they love the new look, while others say it doesn't fit the game's narrative or themes represented by her original outfit.

Angela, too, sees some changes from her original look; though she dons a similar top, she has softer features and a rounder face. Fans' reactions to Angela are just as mixed as those to James and Maria, with many loving the new design while others find themselves frustrated that the modernized model doesn't quite reflect her original look.

While opinions on the new Silent Hill 2 remake may be mixed based on official trailers and announcements, the game isn't out yet, and no one knows for sure exactly how the game or its reviews will play out. Now that Silent Hill 2 officially has an October release date, fans won't have to wait much longer to experience the new game for themselves and decide for themselves whether the remake reflects the unforgettable atmospheric, psychological horror of the original.
