Japanese publisher Square Enix today shared a lot of interesting news and announcements about their IP Nier.
The highly-praised Nier: Automata from 2018, made by fan-favourite PlatinumGames, exceeded 4.5 million copies sold(Shipment + Digital Sales) and that's only for PlayStation 4, we don't know how much it sold on PC, but we guess it's also a decent number. For Nier fans, this is great news, since that means that franchise is quite profitable for the publisher, which probably means they are willing to invest more in future games.
And today they've already announced two new Neir projects.
First, they announced a mobile Nier game, about which we don't know too much, except for the name NieR Re[in]carnation and things we see in the trailer below. It looks like we are playing as a young Kaine. This sure does have the potential to be something interesting, we just hope it won't be plagued by greedy monetisation mechanics, which is often the case with mobile games.
The second project they announced today is the remaster of the original Nier game from 2010 (NieR Replicant on PS3). In the spirit of the series, remaster is called NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139.
We can't find out much from the teaser trailer, but we do hope for the quality of life improvements and some redesign of combat mechanics, since those were definitely the weak parts of the game. Of course, we can't wait for another playthrough, to once again experience great storytelling from the mind of Yoko Taro.
We hope that this is just a beginning and that soon we'll possibly see completely new Nier game, hopefully, made by PlatinumGames. Interestingly enough, recently they tweeted about the new announcement coming from them on April 1, just a few days from now. Is it maybe a new Nier game? We sure hope so.
