Following the cancellation of previous Pokémon tournaments, it’s now been announced the remainder of the official competitive season has been suspended until further notice.
In a post on their official website, the Pokémon Company announced the 2020 North America International Championships, scheduled for 26th June, and the Pokémon World Championships on 14th August in London have been cancelled.
“With the cancellation of these pinnacle events, the 2020 Play! Pokémon Championship Series is suspended and all sanctioned Play! Pokémon events including League, Club, Prerelease, League Challenge, League Cup, Premier Challenge and Midseason Showdown are cancelled until further notice,” the statement reads.

Championship points earned so far this season will instead carry over to the 2021 Championship Series, with the World Championships set to take place in London next year instead.
While it’s undoubtedly disappointing news, it’s expected at this point - especially considering how these events draw in international crowds.
For now, we’ll simply have to keep ourselves busy with the upcoming expansions to Pokémon Sword and Shield - with the first set to arrive in June.
If you fancy some competitive Pokémon however, an online tournament called The Champions Cup has been organised by the community to fill the void, which takes place across 4-5th April.
