The massive new ARPG, Path of Exile 2, is even more popular than developer Grinding Gear Games imagined, boasting over one million Supporter Pack redemptions just before the launch of its Early Access version. This has led the developers to preemptively warn about possible login queue issues at launch.

The official release date and time of Path of Exile 2's Early Access version on PC and consoles is 6 December 2024 at 11:00 PST (21:00 GMT+2 or 19:00 UTC). However, players should expect at least some login queues and, at worse, login service outages and server issues, causing lag, disconnects, or an inability to actually play the game for the first few hours or even throughout the launch weekend (6 to 9 December) as a possibility.

To be clear, due to the possible server smackdown, there's nothing you can do to skip the queue or fix potentially long wait times to get into Path of Exile 2. It's also possible that no issues occur.

Jonathan Rogers, the Game Director of Path of Exile 2, explained:

There are probably going to be some queues during the launch weekend. Before our announcement when we were ordering capacity, we really didn't expect to have more than a million people online at the same time. We've already ordered way more cloud capacity, and those servers will be coming online very soon, but I do have some concerns about issues with the backend.

We, quite frankly, don't know what our backend services are going to be able to handle as we go above a million users. Now, we've added more database shards, scaling everything we have up as far as it will go, but we are really not sure what kind of limits we might hit. We never expected things to go this big during Early Access.

You can check out the full video where Jonathan Rogers thanks fans and discusses the potential queue issues during the Early Access launch weekend.

Remember to check if the Path of Exile servers are currently down or live. If servers are operational and other players are not complaining about login issues, then it might be on your side. We suggest following these steps to sort out the problem:

  • Connect your gaming device to your router via a LAN cable instead of Wi-Fi.
  • Restart your router (turn it off for five minutes, then back on again).
  • Restart your gaming device.
  • Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to find out if there are network troubles.

If all else fails, you can contact Path of Exile 2 support, but please note that they might have a lot to deal with over the launch weekend.
